PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Hi, I’m Anthony,

Before venturing into the field of psychology, I spent over thirty years working as a tradesman in the construction and mining industries. During this time, I developed a strong foundation in problem-solving, resilience, teamwork and management, mentorship, and conflict resolution.

My journey into psychology was profoundly shaped by my personal experience with suicide, bereavement, and trauma.  My experience instilled a deep empathy and a strong desire to support others facing similar challenges. It has given me a unique perspective and a genuine understanding of grief, loss and the critical importance of mental health support.

After completing my Bachelor of Psychology with Honours, I continued my pursuit of knowledge and skill in the field and completed my Master of Professional Psychology. This path has provided me with solid knowledge and understanding of best practice, evidence-based therapies and principles. I strive to blend my diverse experiences, knowledge, and training to provide holistic and empathetic care. I am committed to creating a strong therapeutic partnership with my clients by providing a safe, non-judgemental environment. I utilise several treatment modalities in my practice, including but not limited to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

My mission is to help as many people as I can and reduce the stigma regarding mental health. I aim to assist my clients in harnessing their strengths and understanding that adversity can yield changes in understanding themselves, others, and the world and can result in a positive outcome.

What you can expect at our first appointment?

The first session is a great way for me to get to know you as a new client and what has brought you to the session. This is done through a semi-structured interview conducted in a non-confrontational and conversational style.

During our time together, I will collaborate with you, discussing your goals. I will use the information I gather to develop a tailored treatment plan. I want to ensure that you are fully informed and involved in not only the decision-making process but your therapy as a whole. Together, we will establish a strong foundation for our work together.

Special Interest Areas

Having lived experience of suicide bereavement and PTSD, I am especially interested in trauma-related issues such as PTSD and moral injury, particularly in the area of veteran and first responder mental health. Also, having spent many years in construction and mining, I have a strong understanding of mental health issues that are prevalent in those industries, such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, drug and alcohol, anger management, as well as issues relating to working remotely.

Another area of special interest is transpersonal psychology (spiritual crisis/experience, different levels of consciousness, transcendental human experiences). As such, I like to take a holistic client-centred approach to providing psychological support, considering my clients’ physical, psychological, and spiritual experiences, circumstances and family/social systems.
