Dr Belinda Barnes over her career in studying behavioural science, psychology and psychotherapy always had an interest in trauma and its affect on the brain and human behaviour. From here, her passion for helping people through their hardships in life developed, a curiosity about human relationships, and heartfelt compassion towards others suffering.

Belinda has a passion for working with adults who have presentations of

  • Complex trauma,
  • Childhood trauma,
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder,
  • Dissociation,
  • Relationship patterns and interpersonal distress,
  • Personality disorders,
  • Anxiety,
  • Pain disorders,
  • And depression.

It is important for Belinda that her clients feel heard and deeply understood in their sessions together. She understands therapy can be emotionally confronting and guides her clients with a warm and caring approach.  She utilises mindfulness based approaches, brief psychodynamic psychotherapy approaches and schema work in her therapy.

Belinda continues to check in with what is and isn’t working with her clients, and encourages feedback and honesty. Belinda believes that therapy is a mutual collaboration between her client and herself. She has confidence that together, she and her clients can shift towards better wellbeing. Belinda’s outcomes for her clients are for them to feel lighter, have compassion for themselves and others, and thus live a fuller life.

Belinda is humbled by the courageousness she sees in her clients. She finds it fulfilling to see that despite adversities, her clients persevere to change and grow to live the life they deserve. This is what motivates her daily.

Dr Belinda is a Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Supervisor at The Psych Professionals, Loganholme. This means her days are mixed with clinical work (seeing clients) and supervising the team of clinicians at the Loganholme practice.

What to expect from a first session with Clinical Psychologist Belinda?

At your first session with Belinda, she works to develop a deep understanding of your day to day feelings, interpersonal patterns, and reactions. If you feel comfortable, Belinda likes to hear about your early life experiences and any patterns you may have seen throughout your journey. She understands that coming to see a psychologist can be daunting and takes every step to ensure you will feel safe and comfortable in your therapeutic space.
