Catalina Castellanos

REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST

Catalina developed a passion for Psychology through her want to make a difference in the lives of others. Throughout her life, Catalina has seen the rising numbers of poor mental health around the world and is passionate about helping change this. After recently completing masters, she is feeling even more motivated to help improve the health of the community.

Catalina has a passion for working with children aged 5-12 years and adults. She supports her clients with a warm, client centered approach. It’s important to Catalina that her clients feel safe and secure from the moment they enter her space. For this reason, she ensures that sessions and therapy move at the client’s pace.

Having a client centered approach means Catalina will tailor a treatment plan to suit each individual person. This is done collaboratively between the client and Catalina, meaning there will be a continuous conversation of what is or is not working.

Catalina is motivated by the inner potential she sees in each one of her clients to heal and enrich their lives. She feels privileged to help people better understand themselves and this keeps her feeling passionate and motivated at work.

What to expect from a first session with Catalina:

Adults: A first session with Catalina will be a little different to any further sessions. This is because the first session is mostly about getting to know each other and beginning to build a therapeutic relationship. Catalina likes to take this opportunity to discuss what may have brought you to therapy and learn from your perspective about anything you would like to discuss.

Children: A first session with a child will usually begin with a chat with the parent/s or guardian/s. This is to get their perspective on what has been happening and why the child is coming to therapy. Catalina will begin to build an understanding of what challenges the child and family are experiencing and develop some goals for therapy from this. Catalina will also involve the child in this conversation and begin to understand and build a relationship with them.
