Peter holds a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) Honours degree and is in the final year of a Masters program, which brings him a step closer to becoming a Clinical Psychologist.
Peter’s interest and passion for the complexities of human behaviour evolved from more than 20 years of working in Management and Business Development roles. Through these roles, Peter collaborated with many people from school-leavers entering the workforce, tradespeople, sales professionals, business owners, and corporate stakeholders to discover and facilitate processes for change that enhanced business capability.
Peter has experience in face to face, telephone and digital crisis support and has a particular interest in complex presentations, PTSD, and pain management. He assists his clients with adjustment challenges, challenging behaviour, emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, and those who are at risk of self-harm or suicide.
When working with clients, Peter’s mission is to bring his best self to every session and meet clients where they are at, in their time. His philosophy, ‘there is no there there,’ is how he reminds himself that experience, knowledge, and life are a journey rather than an endpoint. This fuels Peter’s self-development and curiosity for staying up to date with evidence-based treatment research and intervention techniques. Peter works from a strengths-based perspective and regularly draws upon evidence-based strategies from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness.
In his session, Peter seeks to join with clients to create a safe therapeutic environment and encourage collaboration. Once goals have been agreed upon, Peter will suggest various behavioural techniques that collect evidence about moments in a client’s life. This provides an opportunity to recognise achievement and reflection of physical sensation, emotion, and thought. As therapy progresses, Peter works with his clients on a range of evidence-based skills and techniques that, when practised in and out of session, develop self-worth, self-leadership, and mastery – qualities that help clients on their unique path towards their goals and more meaningful life.
